Here's your exclusive first look at the cover of Out's March Americana-themed issue featuring Ewan McGregor. While the Scottish actor might seem a bit of a strange subject for an issue dedicated to the people, events, and cultural artifacts that have made this country great, McGregor's adventurous role choices and his ability to uncover and illuminate the humanity of characters living lives very different from his own exemplifies the kind of America we want to be living in.
In our cover story, McGregor discusses playing Jim Carrey's prison house lover in the film I Love You Phillip Morris, based on a true story and finally making it to the big screen this April after being shelved for over a year. "At Sundance everyone assumed it would be snapped up," says McGregor, "but it wasn't...There was talk that Disney fended off the release until after A Christmas Carol came out. They didn't want kids thinking [Carrey's] Ebenezer Scrooge was a bender." McGregor continues,
"I'm very keen that it's a gay movie. There was quite a lot of talk at Sundance that 'Well, it's not a gay movie. It's a film about guys who happen to be gay.' And I was thinking, it's nothing but a gay movie. It's about a gay couple, about a man's sexuality, and he comes out. It's not the point of the film, but let's not pretend it's not a gay film."

And keep an eye out in the coming days for more from the March Americana issue including our tribute to 80 Gay American Classics from the genius of Jasper Johns to the in-your-face camp of Andy Warhol to Tom Cruise's career and our Spring fashion portfolios.
