Lady Gaga took to the stage Saturday night to perform a moving rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine" at the Human Rights Campaign's National Equality Dinner For Gay Rights. As beautiful as the song is, after faithfully being trooped out at every protest, fundraiser, and award show tribute over the last 30 years, it now has a tendency to come off as a bit tired. Gaga avoided any potential zzz's by keeping her arrangement simple -- which also shifted the attention from herself to the song and the occasion -- and replacing some of the lyrics. After referencing Matthew Shepard ("Imagine there's no heaven / it's easy if you try / no hell beneath us / and only Matthew in the sky"), she belted out, "It isn't equal if it's sometimes / I want a real democracy / Imagine all the people could love / equally." We hear you sister. Let's just hope the rest of the country does too.
