The latest news in what's becoming a semi-regular Heathers remake rumor mill comes today from Variety, which reports that Fox is developing a TV series inspired by the classic '80s angstedy. (Think Gossip Girl with more actual murder?) "The characters from the movie are all expected to be there -- Veronica Sawyer (played in the movie by (Winona Ryder), J.D. (Christian Slater) and the 'Heathers.' " Writer Mark Rizzo and executive producer Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City, Men in Trees) are on board.
"We had the title, and talked about doing a film remake at times," says Gary Lucchesi, president of Lakeshore Entertainment. "But doing it for TV seemed like a fresh and original idea."
Fresh, maybe, but certainly nothing short of a creative challenge, given that in the original storyline lots of the above named characters sort of... die.
