The World Needs A BeBe

Can't bear the thought of spending another Wednesday night watching HGTV? Want to help a drag queen get herself up on the big screen? If you're in NYC, get off the couch and head over to BLVD to help raise some much needed dough for a documentary about Bebe Zahara Benet -- the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Nea Kudi Marshall -- the goofy young Cameroonian man who transforms into the staggeringly beautiful Bebe Zahara Benet -- first discovered his talent for female impersonation when he moved to Minneapolis from Africa a handful of years ago. Since 2006 -- way before Bebe blew up thanks to the hit LOGO drag queen competition -- director and producer Emily Branham has been following Marshall to document his struggle to attain success on his own terms -- while working to reconcile his fabulous (but unconventional to say the least) career path with his family's traditional values.

Bebe will be at the party tonight to perform and mingle along with Mimi Imfurst, who will host and perform, and DJ Barney Iller. The other highlights of the night include the premiere of the trailer for the upcoming doc, wine tastings (and an open bar for the first hour) provided by Barefoot wines and a silent auction. All money raised will help the film get through its rough cut stage, thereby helping to attract distributors and get the doc out in the world.

The event runs from 7pm to 11pm at BLVD, 199 Bowery Street, NYC and tickets are $15 at the door or $10 with RSVP to party@workandserve.com. You must be 21+ to attend. For more info about the documentary, head here. And if you can't make it tonight but still would like to donate, head here.
