Rag & Bone & Penfield

Some collaborations carry a sense of otherworldly surprise, deviation from the norm by definition. But, when it comes to Rag & Bone's team-up with iconic outerwear label Penfield, the result isn't outer-realm for either label, doubtless a good thing.

"We didn't do anything major," says one half of R&B's design team Marcus Wainwright about the Penfield jacket they designed in tandem with their F/W 09 collection. "For me, this is the archetypal Penfield silhouette. I buy a lot of vintage, and that's what I see. So it's fun to take a garment like that, something classic, and play with the fabrics." By "playing with the fabrics" he means constructing the jacket with some R&B signatures: black Schoeller melton wool (used extensively in their F/W 09 collection), leather shoulders and standard Bemberg lining. As far as the look of the jacket, it's still quintessentially Penfield, but with a more subtle integration of western style in the yoke and a more fitted silhouette. And don't think the R&B boys forewent functionality. "It's as warm as a duvet," Wainwright assures.
