I have a confession to make: I haven't stopped listening to the new Bat For Lashes (AKA Natasha Khan) album, Two Suns, since it arrived at the office a few weeks ago. While I liked parts of Khan's first LP, Fur and Gold, I just couldn't fully commit. I always felt like I was working too hard to enjoy something that just wasn't made for me -- kind of like the majority of the men I dated in my early 20s.
But Two Suns wormed its way into my ears and heart from the second I hit play. Pitchfork.com, which released the stunning cover art for Two Suns today, explains that the new album is "a conceptual affair that pits Khan against a blonde alter ego named Pearl and that the record features Scott Walker and Yeasayer." It reminds me of a cross between Kate Bush's The Sensual World, Sarah Mclachlan's Touch, and Lisa Germano's Lullaby For Liquid Pig. If none of that means anything to you imagine a drum machine pitter pattering away at a Renaissance fair (a real one from hundreds of years ago -- not the one serving up Turkey Legs and geeks in green tights that you went to last summer with cousin Ricky) -- it's epic, nostalgic, dreamy, and current all at once.
