Designers Love Social Networking

At a time when fashion designers' personal lives are mentioned in the press almost as much as their clothes, it's no surprise that many of them have tapped into social networking websites to bring themselves closer to their admirers.

At a time when fashion designers' personal lives are mentioned in the press almost as much as their clothes, it's no surprise that many of them have tapped into social networking websites to bring themselves closer to their admirers. It might seem like a strange marketing move considering that the majority of MySpace and Facebook users are too young to afford the luxurious clothes and accessories conjured up by designers. Maybe it's a ploy to get them hooked young, so they'll grow up aspiring to wear a pair of Prada shoes and carry a Louis Vuitton bag.

ELLE.com has compiled a list of designer MySpace pages, so you can add them to your growing list of friends and feel a bit closer to Marc Jacobs and his dog, Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga, Tom Ford or Karl Lagerfeld. Personally, I love that Tom Ford's page plays some good ol' gay house music while Marc Jacobs' page offers up "No Scrubs" by TLC. Who knows if these are their official pages and many of them haven't logged into MySpace in ages, so maybe they've moved on to Facebook as the hip and trendy site of the moment?
