New York City tourists and stuffy Wall Streeters got an eye full over the weekend when hundreds of subway riders decided to go pants-free as part of the 8th annual No-Pants Subway Ride planned by Improv Everywhere--the same awesome folks that sent dozens of shirtless shoppers into Abercrombie & Fitch. The mission for men and women with an exhibitionist streak was to get on the subway and strip down to their skivvies.
Part of the mission included acting like nothing was out of the ordinary. If asked why they weren't wearing pants, participants were instructed to respond "Oh, I totally forgot to put them on before leaving" or "They were too uncomfortable."
Reactions were mixed. Some silly tourists quickly moved to other cars once they spotted a guy kick off his shoes and start removing his Levi's fearing he was about to flash his captive audience.
"People thought we were protesting global warming," one participant told your Stylelist--who didn't join in the fun because it was laundry day and he wasn't wearing any underwear at all.
It was a chance for New Yorkers to show off their panty fashions--in the middle of a bitter cold snap, no less. Men took to the trains in their best 2xist, Cin2s and Fruit of the Loom boxers, briefs and everything in between. Granny panties were expressly forbidden.
The No Pants Subway Ride is cropping up all over the country including Chicago and San Francisco, so you don't have to be in NYC to join in the fun. But the real question is: If you are going to participate, what kind of underwear would you be proud to bear?
