Watch: Charli XCX Sings ‘I Want Candy’

We’re calling it: Charli XCX has officially won the silver medal in Song of Summer 2014 contest. Gold has obviously gone to Iggy Azalea for “Fancy,” but it was a close race.

Not only is Charli XCX featured on the Iggy’s summer jam, but “Boom Clap” was a strong contender. Charli performed both “Boom Clap” and a cover of The Strangeloves’ 1965 classic “I Want Candy”—you probably remember the Bow Wow Wow version—for Transmitter.

Maybe it’s the flimsy, sheer dress or the tarty dance moves or the tussled sex hair, but Charli XCX’s sexed up performance doesn’t feel over the top; this how “I Want Candy” is meant to be sung. Check out her renditions of “Boom Clap” and “I Want Candy” below.
