Gender identity is questioned in the short film by Lisa Gunning for Goldfrapp's 'Tales of Us'

Goldfrapp's Tales of Us, the newest studio album by electronic duo, will be released on September 10 (and the band will perform in NYC the same night). Nearly every track's title is a name, echoing the narrative nature of the music. In conjunction with the album is a series of mystifying short films, which explore sexuality and self-concept through stories that will send shivers down your spine. As Alison Goldfrapp revealed to us in our recent profile: "Our sexuality is so complex that to define it in black and white just seems ludicrous, really."

Goldfrapp's "short films"--that function as music videos--play with the fluidity in gender and sexuality that Alison is describing quite a lot. The film for "Annabel," created by the brilliant Lisa Gunning, effectively turns the notion of strict gender identification on its head.
