We've been sharing thoughts and anecdotes about David Bowie's influence on popular culture over the last 40 years. (Check out 10 Days of Bowie.) But don't forget that all of that was prompted by his latest album, The Next Day, which released last week. It landed at No. 2 in the U.S., his highest ever chart position, and was No. 1 in the U.K., Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland a week after its release.

Bowie's return with The Next Day, after a decade-long hiatus, has been embraced by critics as his "twilight masterpiece" by the New York Times and "the greatest comeback album ever," according to The Independent.

We're also just enjoying this new photo of him on a rooftop in Manhattan, snow in his hair, the city skyline behind him.
