The first single from her greatest hits compilation is released

Kelly Clarkson premiered her newest single, "Catch My Breath" this morning on On-Air with Ryan Seacrest. The single is the lead-in for Clarkson's much-anticipated greatest hits compilation, set to hit stores November 19.

Much of Clarkson's past Top 40 fare has been kiss-off empowerment anthems or edgier riffs on brooding heartbreak. As an introspective look on her decade in the limelight, "Catch My Breath" takes a turn toward grounded adulthood.

"This song represents who I've been, what I've felt, and where I'm headed as not only an artist but as a 30-year-old that is now smart enough to know that it's time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today," Clarkson writes on her website.

The single's synth-heavy production, led by Clarkson's other-wordly vocals, are all on mark here, but the lyricism is put at the forefront, denoting optimism for the future while living in the moment. "Catching my breath, letting it go/ Turning my cheek for the sake of the show/ Now that you know this is my life/ I won't be told what's supposed to be right," Clarkson belts, as you soon will be, too.

Clarkson co-wrote "Catch My Breath" with longtime friends Jason Halbert and Eric Olson. Check it out below:
