Who could possibly play mopey Manchester megastar, Morrissey, on the silver screen if not the self-proclaimed martyr himself? That's the big question facing Mark Gill, who will be directing the feature-length biopic, announced on the UK's Honlodge Productions Thursday morning. Gill described the movies as "a love letter to Steven Patrick Morrissey and the dark satanic mills of Manchester." Filming is set to begin later this year.
Morrissey's autobiography, published late last year to reviews running the gamut from exultant to appalled, stirred controversy after it materialized that a section dealing with his two year relationship with photographer Jake Owen Walters in the '90s was considerably downplayed in the US edition. After the book's publication in the U.K., the singer had derided efforts to label him gay or bisexual by declaring that he was "humansexual."
