Machete Kills
The second entry in Robert Rodriguez’s campy Machete series stars Danny Trejo as the titular ex-Federale who hacks and slashes his way through Mexico to bring down an arms dealer. More important, Lady Gaga makes her film debut playing someone called La Chameleón. (October 4)

Valentine Road
In February 2008, 15-year-old Lawrence King was fatally shot by a classmate in what was called “the most prominent gay-bias crime since the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard.” In her new documentary, director Marta Cunningham sets out to make sense of the senseless killing. (October 7 on HBO)

Don Jon
A totally ripped Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a Jersey beefcake with a porn addiction. But when perfect 10 Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) enters his life, he’s got to choose: the girl or the girls on film. (October 18)
