Leaving behind the gay zombies and violent hustlers for which he's known, Bruce LaBruce's new film, Gerontophilia, focuses instead on a romance between a young nursing home attendant (Pier-Gabriel Lajoie) and an older patient played Walter Borden.
The film doesn't have a release date as of yet, but premiered at the Venice Film Festival this evening. Here's what Jon Frosch from France 24 had to say about it:
"The pretty-boy leading man, Pier Gabriel-Lajoie, isn't much of an actor yet - his delivery in English is stilted - but there's a guilelessness in his gaze that meshes nicely with the weary sophistication of Walter Borden, who plays the aging object of desire.
"As likeable as it is, 'Gerontophilia' is too vaguely sketched, too clumsy and eager to make an impact. But given that film festivals often find directors competing to see who can be the most outre, it's refreshing to see someone take a shocker of a premise and soften it with humor and heart."
