Eytan Fox's 2002 military romance Yossi & Jagger placed him at the forefront of gay cinema in America. His forthcoming Yossi follows up on his original character's development, as he continues to document what it means to be a lover and a fighter in the 21st century. We asked him where he goes for inspiration -- or just for fun.
"The young, pretty people stroll and cycle along Rothschild Boulevard, engaging in Tel Aviv's favorite pastime: people watching. Lounge on the porch at Cantina (71 Rothschild Blvd.; The-Rothschild.com) and take it all in with a slice of the best pizza in town.
I shot my film The Bubble at Orna and Ella on Sheinkin Street, which used to be the trendiest in Tel Aviv. It has great food and the cutest waiters around.
Nachalat Binyamin is full of cool bars, but I love Cafe 48 (Nachalat Binyamin 48).
For the best margaritas in town, head to Manta Ray at Alma Beach. From there you can walk down the promenade, all the way to the ancient and exotic district of Jaffa.
I don't know if Americans would call the Yarkon a "river," but it's the only one we have, and I go jogging there once in a while. There are many people walking, picnicking, and exercising there all day long. The park runs all the way to the renovated Namal, which means port in Hebrew, with its restaurants and shops. It's kind of touristy, but I really like it."
