Trailer Trash: 'The Lucky One'

The featurette for Nicholas Sparks' seventh (you heard right) film adaptation elicited some strong reactions from the Out team.

Following in the footsteps of Shane West, Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum, Zac Efron is the latest in a long line of beefcakes swaggering around and rescuing women in need of saving. We don't know what it is about these Sparks novels, but they usually cast a spell on teen girls and middle-aged women the world over. The Out staff? Not so much. Watch the featurette for The Lucky One, read our reactions, and let us know what you think.

"This is creepy. Zac is pretty much stalking this chick. I love Blythe Danner, but even her presence isn't enough for me to see this. I'm deep in a rom-com phase right now, and there just isn't enough com in this for me."

– Max Berlinger, Associate Editor

"I wonder how this one will end..."

– Raef Harrison, Web Editor

"I'm not buying what Taylor is "Schilling," but I love Blythe Danner, and Zefron doesn't look too shabby, either (notice the obligatory abs shot!). I might see this (because I love trashy romantic dramas) with either a girlfriend, a plastic water bottle filled with wine, or (probably) both."

– Mike Berlin, Copy Editor

"Zac Efron finds a picture and falls in love with a woman who looks at the very infinitesimal least ten years too old for him. And then somebody throws a plant. On the positive side, there's clearly a Zacquisha shirtless scene! So there's that!"

– Matthew Rand, Digital Intern

"This looks like some sort of leftovers TV movie that is basically a collection of longing glances and music montages. Also, what's with bursting our bubble every 10 seconds with author talk? Teenagers and Ephronaholics don't care what ruddy old Nicholas Sparks has to say!"

– Adam Rathe, Senior Editor

"This movie looks depressing to me for a few reasons, none of them having to do with the war.

1.) Zac Efron looks like he's gained weight... in his FACE?!
2.) Blythe Danner WTF are you doing?  You are so much better than this.  I'm serious.
3.) A man who is a dead ringer for Riff Raff is directing a film based on a Nicholas Sparks book.
BUT, that shower scene and the the part where Zac Efron takes his shirt off (omg is that hair? On his chest?) could make this all okay with me because I am a 14 year-old girl."
– Jordan Shavarebi, Editorial Intern

I'm not immune to the Sparks effect, but The Notebook already has a hunky veteran fixing up a house, a romantic canoe jaunt, and plenty of wet makeout scenes. Why watch Efron do what Gosling did better?"

I guess I'm not a Nicholas Sparks fan. Not my kind of stuff. I didn't like Message in a Bottle, The Notebook or Dear John. I thought they were all garbage, if you liked it that's great. I liked Nights in Rodanthe up until the ending, but only because I could stare at Diane Lane and Richard Gere dancing around on screen for no reason. The only reason I'll see this one is because Zac Efron is a talented actor and I'm thinking this may have been the first time he takes some of his clothes off on screen. Not bad. This movie seems ridiculously sappy so I'll wait for it to come out on DVD, that way I can turn it off if I can't get through it.

Nothing can compare to NIGHTS IN RODANTHE the best adaptation from one of Nick Sparks books. But i will give this one a chance because A. ZAC EFRON is hot and B. I actually read Nick Sparks books. And, C. i think that the story can wrap around to be awesome.
