When it comes to drag, many queens draw inspiration from the divas of Hollywood. However, if you watch RuPaul's Drag Race, you might think the contestants' only points of reference are on stage divas, such as Beyonce, Rihanna or Britney Spears. But there was a time when queens mimicked the likeness of Babs, Cher, Liza, or Marilyn to a point where it was hard to tell which was the person in drag and which was the real queen.
The legendary Jimmy James is among the performers who channeled the original one-name divas and featured in the recently updated and rereleased coffee table book, dr.a.g., produced by Christopher Logan, who brings together hundreds of images of queens from every generation of drag.
