In the 75 years since the debut of The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland has become a Hollywood legend and preeminent gay icon. The actress's iconic looks and roles have been recreated both on stage and on TV.
Now, for a second year in a row, Garland is being transformed on canvas. Seven artists, including Robert Risko, the longtime Vanity Fair illustrator, Olimpia Zagnoli from The New York Times and Samantha Hahn, creator of Well Read Women, have donated artistic interpretations of the actress to the benefit concert "Night of a Thousand Judys," to raise money for the Ali Forney Center -- the nation's largest organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth.
The donated works -- check out an exclusive preview of each piece -- will be sold via silent auction at the event. On Tuesday, the event launched an online auction on BiddingForGood.com where all the pieces are available for purchase.
The fourth annual event will on Monday, June 16 at the Kaufman Music Center in New York City.
Participating performers include Sarah Dash (LaBelle), Randy Harrison (Queer as Folk), Rory O'Malley (The Book of Mormon), Sierra Boggess (Phantom of the Opera), Alison Fraser (Gypsy), Julia Murney (Wicked) and Jackie Hoffman (Hairspray), plus a special appearance from Austin Scarlett of Project Runway.
