Chase Hunter Chase Hunter launched his career in the porn industry in 1993 and quickly became the object of many fantasies. Almost 20 years later, hes still turning us on. In 2007 Chase was recognized for his body of work when the GAYVN Awards, presented annually to honor work in gay pornography, presented him with their Hall of Fame Award. Now hes up for Rentboy.coms Hookie Award in the category of Best Mature Escort 40+ to be handed on March 19 in New York. When we caught up with Chase he revealed his big...heart. He shared stories about his past relationships, what he looks for in a man, and what hes learned about sex over the years. Out: You've been doing porn for more than 20 years now. Some people have referred to you as a legend in the industry. Chase Hunter: Well, it seems like it. How has the porn industry changed over the years? Wow. Thats more than I can say. Ive been around a long time. With the advent of the Internet, thats been a big change. Peoples acceptance has changed. It wasnt so accepted 10 years ago and these days its not such a big deal. How did you get involved with the escort business? Its funny. I actually didnt do the escorting thing for many years because I had gotten into porn. I had a boyfriend and I went out of town. When I came home, he said, By the way, I rented a rent boy. I was like, Shouldnt we have discussed this sort of thing first? Then what happened? I decided to pay him back and ran my ad. I wanted to show him whos who. I had a lot of responses, and it worked out well. Wait...he rented one, but you actually decided to run an ad to be one? Well, I told him, If youre going to do it, do it right. Let me show you how its done. I didnt really do it intending to follow through with it, but when I got phone calls, I thought, What the heck? Are you two still together? No, not at all. It must be difficult to find a relationship in this business. Is it? Its not hard to find one -- its hard to keep one. I think its virtually impossible to have a boyfriend when youre in the business. I think its asking a bit too much of somebody to put up with all that. If you look at them historically, they dont really last. Ive had some good relationships over the years, but not while I was escorting. I wouldnt do that to somebody now. I dont think its appropriate. Do you think there are different levels of acceptance or criticism regarding doing porn versus escorting? I dont think so. Thats an interesting point. Its interesting that we look down on it so much. Also, the people who look down on it are the ones who want it or do it in the background the most. What have you learned about sex over the years? Oh, boy! Thats a good question. Ive learned how much fun it can be. How to do it right. How to do it wrong. And how many people dont do it right. Does Chase Hunter know how to do it right? Very definitely. Practice makes perfect. What would you say is your specialty? I was born to fuck. Mother Nature put me together for that reason. Some people can sing. I can fuck. When you're escorting, do you see the guys before you go out with them on the job? When I first started I would make people send me pictures. Then I would say, Tell me what you want to do, and Ill see if it matches up with what I am willing to do. But people would back off because they were afraid to put their picture out there. So, that limited the audience. As I became more comfortable with it, I learned you can negotiate something in the middle, depending on their looks and your comfort level. You can find something thats good for both of you. You pretty much learn to work with whatever youve got in front of you. So, after a while I stopped requiring a picture. Although you dont trust what they say either. When they say, Im 40 years old and the all-American guy, you dont trust that. So youve never walked in and said, No, this is not going to work? Once or twice. Thats not so much because they didnt look right, but it was the fact that they lied, and if youre going to play that way, Im not going to go along with it. Dont lie to me. Thats just not fair. And actually, some of the people who are less attractive are awfully good at what they do. You just never know. One of the intentions behind the Hookie Awards is to honor the men of Rentboy.coms courage. Are you ever nervous or afraid? Of? Just being with complete strangers? I dont think theres anything to be nervous or afraid of. Im pretty self-confident, and Ive worked on stage for many years in the clubs dancing. So, I got past that a long time ago, but Im not that self-conscious to start with. What would you say to people who say that working as an escort is just morally wrong? Its the oldest profession in the world! Its been around as long as the Catholic church has. Come on. Its funny because I actually used to have a more negative opinion of it just because of the way I was raised. I was raised a Republican. Now that Ive done it, I realize how much of a good thing it is. As long as you've got the money to get what you want, when you want it delivered to your door, why not? The people who dont like it are the ones who cant afford it or have issues with themselves. When was the big "ah-ha moment," as Oprah Winfrey would say? I look at it like this -- Im lucky to have my job these days. Its one of the best jobs in the world. My job is basically one thing: To make people happy. Whatever it is, I want to make them smile and be happy when were done, and thats a pretty good job to have. How would you describe your prices? I list a flat rate and pretty much go with that. Im pretty expensive, but I try to offer something better and try to do a good job. I only see one client a day. I dont do multiples. Some people can do it over and over. I like to do it once, and I like to do it right. Have you worked today? No, sure havent. How many times do you work in a week? Anywhere from two to five. Five is a long work week. You get tired after a while. It does impact your personal sex life because you can only have so much sex in the course of a week or a month and on your day off youre like, Oh, I dont want to have sex now! How important is it for you to win this category at the Hookie Awards? Its not especially important. I have fun doing what I do. It would be nice to be recognized in some aspect, but I think that happens on its own from day to day and person to person. Where would you keep the award if you won? I guess on the mantle where I keep the other porn awards. I know you said youre not looking for a relationship now, but what do you look for a guy? Somebody who is fun and has good sexual energy. A nice smile is the first thing Im attracted to in a guy. Do you have plans to go back into porn? I never left it. People often speak of me in terms of being retired, but I tend to make a few movies and then take a few years off. I like that. People dont get tired of me. Im not done yet. Ill be back.
