And for his next trick, Jack White is abandoning the limiting color schemes and skipping the duo template, but hes not going anywhere without those nicotine-stained blues. Having joined forces with The Kills Allison Mosshart and Queens of the Stone Ages Dean Fertita, White and near-constant collaborator Jack LJ Lawrence (Raconteurs) formed another outfit while touring with blues-rock duo the Kills last year. After three weeks holed up on Whites Tennessee farm, the result finds White behind the drum kit, and occasionally teaming up with Mosshart on raw, stomping me-against-you anthems. The result is scorching rock that runs the gamut from original compositions to a Dylan cover to a groove-infused instrumental.

What indie flicks lack in funding, they more than make up for with spectacular soundtracks. Seeing as quintessential indie pin-up Zooey Deschanel stars in 500 Days of Summer, its no surprise that the romance-is-dead romantic comedy boasts a stellar line-up, from 80s mope-rockers the Smiths to hair metal mainstays Poison, all the way up through the dulcet stylings of Regina Spektor and twee rockers Belle and Sebastian. In fact, the only thing missing from the varied whos-who is Deschanel herself, whos one half of She & Him (with M. Ward), who often reference another of the soundtracks contributors, country-pop OG Lee Hazelwood. Sure to follow up where Garden State left off.

Its been seven years since West Coast freak-pop rocks have put out their fourth album Welcome To The Monkey House, and after a major-label ordeal, the music the band intended is finally seeing the light of day. You see, back in 2001, the Dandys headed into their Portland studio to record the follow up to breakthrough Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. When they were finished, their record label opted out of using our preferred mixes and remixed the record on their own to create [Monkey House] Meanwhile, The Dandy Warhols Are Sound just sat there, the band said. Since then the band have released new material, but havent quite been able to let go of the album they intended until now.
