Monday, December 22: Yes, its officially time to freak out. You have 72 hours until Christmas, and chances are you still have some naughty boys (and girls) on your list to take care of. Allow us to offer up a few last-minute gift ideas that will keep on giving into the New Year. Justin Monroes Down the Rabbit Hole is an edgy collection of photography (the surreally staged portraits begin with an adventure down a different kind of rabbit hole, if you catch our drift) with some awesome shots of celebrities, including Amanda Lepore and Janice Dickinson. Out comedian Jason Stuarts recently released DVD Making it to the Middle will take care of your close chums in need of a good laugh. If youre looking to stuff stockings, snag tickets to the Britney Spears or Katy Perry concerts slated for 2009. Still stumped? Get some inspiration from Outs extensive Holiday Gift Guide.
Tuesday, December 23: If you havent yet caught Liza Minnelli in action at New York City's Palace Theatre, youre running out of time. Can you think of a more quintessentially gay Big Apple moment than seeing the histrionic icon perform New York, New York on a Broadway stage? Step one: Pick up a copy of the recently released Liza Minnelli: The Complete A&M Recordings, which includes all the tracks Liza released for the label over four decades. Step two: Book tickets before the show closes on January 4. Tonights gig starts at 8:00 PM EST, with tickets available through Ticketmaster. Wednesday, December 24: Cylons and tigers and gays, oh my! We already knew that the leading sci-fi remake and cult series Battlestar Galactica had a strong gay fan base (click here for Outs 2006 story on that topic and an interview with comely star Jamie Bamber). The Sci-Fi Channel added a twist recently when two of its leading male characters locked lips in the series first gay kiss. The show is currently airing a batch of webisodes leading up to the Season 5 premiere on January 16 (catch the trailer for the current web series here). Tonights installment is all new and available through the shows official web site, where you can also brush up on the plot. Man-on-man action in outer space: Frak, thats the definition of "geeky hot."
Thursday, December 25: Not that he needs it, but if Brad Pitt wanted to head back in time to his baby-faced days, then he got his wish when he landed the title role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. By now, every man and his gay brother have seen the trailer for the new movie starring Pitt and Cate Blanchett (the pair looked absolutely stunning during their press junket for the flick, which you can see here). The film is loosely based on the 1922 F. Scott Fitzgerald short story about a man who is born an octogenarian then mysteriously ages backwards. The movie, directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven), follows Button from the end of World War I to the 21st century and is admittedly more of a love story than the original. However, it still prods us to examine how we measure life and the elements that transcend time.
Friday, December 26: The list of performers who have recorded songs by the Brooklyn-born pianist George Gershwin (born Jacob Gershowitz) is staggering and genre-bending: Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Sting, Meatloaf, Cher. The list goes on and on, but that cast of characters isnt at all surprising if you consider the composers jaw-dropping talent (check out this rare clip of Gershwin playing I Got Rhythm). In George Gershwin Alone, playwright and composer Hershey Felder takes on the daunting task of portraying the musical savant, which he does through spoken word, song, and -- most impressively -- live piano performances. Tonights show is at 8:00 PM PST at Los Angeles Geffen Playhouse. Get more information directly from the venue here.
Saturday, December 27: Its the holidays and if youre fortunate enough to have some family in town for the season (with children in tow), the kids will love Wintuk by Cirque du Soleil, currently playing at New York City's WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden. The show isnt as overtly sexy as the troupes other acrobatic wonders, but it still delights. Plus: The hot cast members sport some amazing physiques through their elaborate tight-fitting costumes. Just use your little imagination. Get tickets throughTicketmaster.
Sunday, December 28: Follow family holiday drama with a comedy chaser. In South Florida a great ensemble of stage actors is serving up hilarious parodies of shows gracing the Great White Way, including some of its most acclaimed hits. This year Forbidden Broadway, the four-person show that has been running rotating material for more than 25 years, roasts Gypsy, The Little Mermaid, and Mary Poppins, among others. Tickets for tonights 7:30 PM EST show at the West Palm Beach Kravis Center for the Performing Arts are available directly through the venues website.
