Weeds

Monday, June 16:Showtime welcomes Weeds back for a fourth season, and devotees can expect 13 new episodes every week starting tonight. 2007 Out 100 honoree Mary-Louise Parker plays her torn, dimensional character, Nancy Botwin, so fabulously (remember, she won the Golden Globe for her skills), and this time around she and the kids are heading to a beach community near Tijuana to live with her nasty father-in-law (Albert Brooks) and wreak their signature havoc. If you need to get caught up, Season 3 just came out -- get it here. In the meantime, check out this notorious clip of Nancy's brother, Andy, explaining to his nephew the proper way to get his rocks off here, then watch a preview of Season 4 here. Tuesday, June 17:Craig Seymour is a pop music writer for two major newspapers, he holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland -- and he used to strip in D.C. while obtaining said advanced degree. You can get all the quirky details by picking up Seymour's fascinating memoir All I Could Bare: My Life in the Strip Clubs of Gay Washington, D.C., out today. Read an excerpt here, then order it here. Then grab controversial singer Katy Perry's One of the Boys, also out today. A few listens of her ridiculously fun pop gems, "I Kissed a Girl" and "UR So Gay," and you'll be begging her to call you her very own Main Gay. Watch the video for "Kissed" here and read her Q&A with Out here. Wednesday, June 18: Don't pretend like the water sports aren't your favorite summer Olympic moments. Get an early dose of swimming, diving, and water polo in the next four days and nights as queer athletes and performers pull up their Speedos for D.C.'s IGLA Aquatics Championships. Don't miss the Pink Flamingo competition, a combination of dancing, synchronized swimming, costumes, and ultra-gayness. Check out this Mikasa ad to entice you and then the IGLA website to consult the calendar. Thursday, June 19: Remember that trip you were planning to the gay Cape? The time is now since this week offers visitors four days of queer cinema at the Provincetown International Film Festival. Starting Wednesday, June 18, follow up movies with beach walks and cocktails, and celebrate this year's honorees, who include Quentin Tarantino for the Filmmaker on the Edge Award, Jane Lynch for the Faith Hubley Memorial Award and Gael Garcia Barnal for the Excellence in Acting Award. The films include Savage Grace (with Julianne Moore), Towelheads (with Maria Bello), Choke, and Were the World Mine (take a peek of Were the World here). Come back to Popnography .com for dispatches from the festival, and head to the festival's website for a full schedule. Friday, June 20: Starring Mike Myers,The Love Guru (opening today) tells the story of Pitka, an American raised by gurus who returns to the States to fix the messy love life of a star hockey player. Oh, did we mention that Justin Timerblake (above) appears in a skimpy Speedo? Watch the trailer here, then catch an interview with Timberlake where he addressees said Speedo here. Saturday, June 21:R.E.M. returns to their home state, a mere hour from Athens, the band's birthplace, to blow out the Lakewood Amphitheatre with the help of Modest Mouse and The National. When they formed 27 years ago, Michael Stipe (above) and company were underground college radio heroes before their first big hit in '87, "The One I Love"), pulled them into the mainstream. Fourteen albums later and they're still productive, evidenced by this year's return to form, Accelerate. The other bands are just the sweet and tasty icing on the cake. Get your tickets here. Sunday, June 22: Imagine if Bert and Ernie grew up and lived through their late 20s in the East Village. Also, they sing songs about porn, racism, unemployment, a useless college degree, and being gay. There you have the hilarious musical Avenue Q, which debuted on Broadway in the summer of 2003 and killed at the Tony Awards. The show's success has spawned productions in Las Vegas and London, and now a tour. Check out tonight's Seattle perf by getting your tickets here. (After Seattle, Q passes through Portland, Ft. Worth, and Charlotte. Get the full schedule here and listen to a sampling of the show's songs here.
