The Gay Agenda

By Peter Schaus

FLICK: Check out the big-screen adaptation of Star Trek scribe David Gerrold's autobiographical novel Martian Child. The film tells the story of David (John Cusack), a writer who seeks solace from a bad breakup by adopting a young boy who believes he's an alien from Mars. The main character, who was queer in the book, is now straight, but the movie still tackles themes resonant to the gays -- like the families we create for ourselves. Bonus: Gay icon Joan Cusack cameos.

TUNES: The boys of Icelandic indie outfit Sigur Ros break their two-year silence with Hvarf-Heim, out November 6. The limited-edition release features two albums: Hvarf, a five-song electric studio recording, and Heim, a six-song acoustic record. Hvarf-Heim serves as the companion album to the band's straight-to-DVD film, Heima, and includes three previously unreleased tracks.
