Art For AIDS

Hard to believe that what began as a small-scale endeavor in a Noe Valley kitchen would go on to attract art world heavyweights like Annie Leibowitz and Rex Ray. San Franciscobased auction Art For AIDS originated 10 years ago, when a handful of artists assembled to sell their pieces to support friends living with HIV and AIDS. The annual benefit returns this August, boasting a new batch of breathtaking photographs and abstract paintings as well as a jury of recognized critics including DeWitt Cheng and Mark Van Proyen. Held in a gallery at the Golden Gate Citys leading auction house, Bonhams & Butterfields, the exposition will donate proceeds to the University of San Francisco AIDS Health Project and present its first Art For AIDS award to the San Francisco Art Institute. Some of the auctions are silent, but spread the word. Bonhams & Butterfields, 220 San Bruno Avenue, San Francisco, August 4. Get more info at www.ArtForAIDS.org.
