Bondage can make for a tryst to remember, and can be a thrilling, intense experience for first-timers. But before tying your trick to the bed with an antique Hermes scarf (not recommended), check off all the items on this beginners list to ensure safe, sane play.
1) Rope Em
If you use rope for bondage, remember that the rope will be in direct contact with the skin so you must select epidermis-friendly material, like clothesline, that wont rub you the wrong way. Twine and scratchy ropes are definite no-nos. For comfort and safety, make sure your rope is no thinner than half an inch.
2) Perfect Length
Get at least 100 feet of rope to cut into varying lengths. Use the shorter pieces (12 feet or so) for tying up hands and feet. Use the longer lengths for more elaborate bondage.
3) Alternate Materials
If you have no rope, PVC tape will work because it sticks to itself, not to skin. Similarly, sports tape is designed not to damage your sensitive parts when it comes off, so its useful in a pinch. Tape shouldnt be used for long bondage sessions because it can trap heat and cause body temperature to rise. Check in frequently with the one being bound to make sure hes not getting too warm.
4) Skip the Silk
Silk scarves may look glam, but knots in silk can quickly get too tight to untie. Same goes for nylons/pantyhose. Do not use.
5) Cut Loose
Keep scissors handy in case you have to cut him loose in a hurry. Never use any materials for bondage that you cant sacrifice to the scissors.
6) Baby Steps
Newbies must not try suspension from a ceiling or wall or mummification during bondage. The pros make it look easy, but youve got to learn the basics first. Start slow. For advanced techniques, pick up a copy of The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage by Midori.
7) Not Too Tight
Dont make any restraints too tight. Keep one or two finger widths between any restraint and the flesh, especially across the torso and chest where breathing can be restricted. Also be aware of vital organs and jointsareas where blood flow can be restricted by tight ropes. Use square knots that can be undone easily.
8) Togetherness
Never, ever, ever leave a bound person alone for any length of time, especially facedown or standing. The risk of fainting, pinched nerves, or suffocation is too high.
9) Safe Word
All advanced sex play should make use of a safe word. Sometimes saying stop isnt enough, especially if your bondage involves role-play. You and your partner(s) should decide prior to playing what word, when uttered, means stop this and untie me pronto! Pick something unmistakable like sassafras or Chechnya.
10) Boundaries
Let loose and enjoy the experience! Pushing your boundaries is probably the most thrilling aspect of bondage, but if youre not having fun dont be afraid to slow down or stop. You can always start up again.
