When The Treasures of Tutankhamun, better known as the King Tut exhibit, visited seven American museums between 1976 and 1979, more than eight million people saw the rare artifacts from ancient Egypt. Many of the highlights are back for an encore, called Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, now at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through November 15. (It will travel to Ft. Lauderdales Museum of Art in December, Chicagos Field Museum in May 2006, and finish up at Philadelphias Franklin Institute in February 2007.)The iconic Gilded Coffin of Tjuya and small viscera coffin of King Tut are in the exhibit, though some of the objects seen in the original exhibition were considered too fragile to make the journey this time. Unless youre planning a trip to Egypt soon, if youre anywhere near one of the four cities on the U.S. tour, the exhibition is worth the trip. (Tickets range in price from approximately $15 to $30.)
