Must-See: Mark Morrisroe's Gender Fluid Exhibit in New York City

Mark Morrisroe

Mark Morrisroe: Works from 1982-85 is showing at Alexander & Bonin in New York through December 22.

Artist Mark Morrisroe was a poster child of queer liberation in the 1980s, a teenage hustler who went on to have a seminal role in the Boston punk scene. As with some of the best artists, his work received its greatest acclaim only after his early death. His "sandwich prints," as he called his photos featuring multiple negatives, documented queer youth. Naked, experimenting with gender and identity, they offered a glimpse of a vulnerable but willful generation.
